BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Global Institute for Language and Literacy Development, LLC (GILD) successfully works with national, state, district, school and community educators to facilitate high academic achievement for English language learners (ELLs). GILD's Blueprint for Instructional Reform© outlines a step-by-step process to increase English language acquisition and academic achievement of ELLs.  All of GILD's services are supported by current research-based theory and practice.  GILD's work includes systems analysis tools, program and curriculum evaluation, and targeted professional development and training for all who work in the service of ELLs.

 

CONSULTANT SERVICES FOR SYSTEMS AND INSTRUCTIONAL REFORM

GILD offers consultant services to K-12 district and school administrators to develop and implement:

  • A systems reform plan to change ELL academic expectations and classroom instruction.
  • A Blueprint for Instructional Reform© based on standards, ELL language and literacy development, and high academic achievement.

ELL RESEARCH-BASED INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES TRAINING FOR PK - 12 GRADE TEACHERS

GILD offers training sessions and workshops for teachers designed to:

  • Develop a process to ensure comprehensible instruction for ELLs that leads to high academic achievement.
  • Synthesize language development and academic content standards into clear instructional strategies.
  • Integrate the five levels of language acquisition knowledge with language development theory to create ELL instructional strategies aligned to standards.
  • Train teachers and school administrators on comprehensive, interactive, hands-on activities and instructional strategies for ELLs in all academic settings.

ELL RESEARCH-BASED INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES TRAINING FOR POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS

GILD offers training sessions for professors and student teachers in post-secondary institutions designed to illustrate how ELL high academic achievement may be integrated into existing teacher preparation programs. Training participants how to:

  • Integrate language development and academic content standards.
  • Apply language acquisition knowledge and theory to research-based instructional strategies.
  • Align standards with the essential components of language development and acquisition to positively impact academic achievement of ELLs.

SYSTEMS AND PROGRAM EVALUATION

GILD offers education systems and ELL program evaluation services to conduct extensive analysis of:

  • State and school district identification and placement processes for ELLs;
  • Instructional services provided to ELLs in a school or within a school district; 
  • State and local Board of Education rules and regulations that impact ELL achievement;
  • Implementation of assessment and accountability requirements;
  • ELL student performance and achievement data;
  • Alignment of curriculum and instructional services to State and federal requirements;
  • Development of evaluation frameworks and compliance monitoring protocols;
  • Alignment of English language proficiency assessments to English language proficiency standards, and
  • Alignment or linkage of English language proficiency standards to academic content standards. 

 

REVIEW OF ELL INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS

GILD offers the expertise to evaluate products, materials and technology software development for   applicability, effectiveness and use in teaching ELLs.  GILD's review includes analysis of the correlation of content standards to English language proficiency standards and application of instructional strategies and methodology used to provide comprehensible instruction to ELLs.
